Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread cut into 1 inch slices
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar optional
  • Maple syrup optional
  • Fresh fruit optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the baking dish. Slice the French bread into 1 inch thick slices and arrange them in the baking dish, overlapping if needed.
  • In a large bowl, beat the eggs, milk, with the brown sugar, cinnamon, cream, and vanilla.
  • Pour evenly over the bread. Press the slices into into the milk mixture to submerge them.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Remove from the fridge about 30 minutes before baking and preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Uncover and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the egg mixture is set and the bread slices are lightly toasted and golden brown.
  • Serve with syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
