Ingredients Needed

Cream cheese – Use block cream cheese, not whipped. Substitute a low fat or fat free version.

Powdered sugar – Also known as confectioners’ sugar or icing sugar.

Frozen whipped topping – Cool Whip is typically used in this recipe, however you can whip your own cream.

Instant chocolate pudding – Use regular or sugar free. Substitute vanilla pudding if you like.

Peanut butter – You will need smooth creamy peanut butter for this recipe. Do not use natural peanut butter as it separates.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – You could also substitute chocolate chips or a combination of chocolate chips and peanut butter chips.

Miniature marshmallows – If you don’t have mini marshmallows, you can cut regular marshmallows into quarters.

How to Make Reese’s Peanut Butter Fluff

First: Using an electric hand mixer combine room temperature cream cheese and powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl and mix until fully blended.

You will need to mix the cream cheese and powdered sugar for about 60 seconds until fully blended. It will be thick and frosting-like.

Second: Add in whipped cream topping and chocolate pudding mix and blend together until smooth. Spoon in peanut butter and blend one more time using the hand mixer. Mix until smooth and thick.

Third: Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the mini marshmallows and chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups and mix until all ingredients are evenly suspended inside the mixture.

Fourth: Allow to chill for at least 30 minutes and garnish with additional mini marshmallows and Reese cup pieces.

How long does it last?

Keep any leftovers in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to 3 days. It is best served the same day you make it!

Can I make it ahead of time?

Yes! The peanut butter fluff salad needs to chill for at least 30 minutes but you could make up to a day ahead of time. If making ahead, be sure to stir it again before serving.

Serving Suggestions

I love this dip served with fresh fruit such as strawberries and apple slices. Serve with chocolate graham crackers and peanut butter cookies as dippers.

Plain graham crackers are super tasty! Shortbread, pretzels, peanut butter cookies, and animal crackers would be great too.

How do I soften cream cheese?

Soften your cream cheese by letting it sit on the countertop for 30 minutes to 1 hour until it comes to room temperature.

If you are like me and forget to take the cream cheese out of the fridge you can try this hack: Place your sealed cream cheese in a bowl of warm water for about 15 minutes, turning over every 5 minutes or so.

Can I make it with marshmallow cream?

I have seen recipes for peanut butter fluff made with marshmallow cream. If you wanted just a creamy dip without any add-ins, you could substitute 8 ounces of marshmallow cream for the mini marshmallows.

Leave in the peanut butter cups or just use them for garnish.

To stabilize your cream use this pro tip: Add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch or ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar to 1 Tablespoon of powdered sugar.

Add this to 1 cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla and whip until stiff peaks form.

Tips for No Leftovers

  • Bring cream cheese to room temperature before mixing.
  • Do not use marshmallow fluff it’s not the same thing. You need the texture of the mini marshmallows.
  • Do not use natural peanut butter. It tends to separate.
  • Chill before serving as the flavors will blend and taste best after it has chilled for 1-2 hours.
  • If you have any leftovers – which I doubt you will – store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
  • Save some Reese’s peanut butter cups and mini marshmallows to garnish the top of the fluff dip.
  • Be sure to use miniature Reese Cups and not full size! Cutting the full size Reese’s cups tend to break apart the cups too much when mixing.
  • You can freeze the peanut butter cups before chopping as this will prevent them from melting when stirring into this delicious dip.
  • I think this recipe would also make a great filling for a no-bake peanut butter cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. Let me know if you try it!
